Online In-Class

Operating successfully in a foreign society and culture means understanding that society and culture. The Certificate in American Society and Culture is designed for those who are not from the United States but want to study here and/or do business here. This certificate program is made up of six courses that can be completed online or in the classroom. It can be taken as a stand-alone program or as an excellent companion to any degree program.

The three credit-hour courses that fulfill requirements of the certificate are:

Required Courses

  • HIST 2010 United States History to 1865 (available online)
  • HIST 2020 United States History since 1865  (available online)
  • POLS 2020 American National Government (available online)

Select Three:

  • ENGL 4720 American Short Stories (ENGL 1010 and 1020 are prerequisites for this course.)
  • MUSI 3300 Music Today (available online)
  • VISU 3050 American Art
  • COMM 2100 Mass Media in Society (available online)
  • SOCI 2000 Introduction to Sociology (available online)

Many classes in this degree program are available in both an In-Class and/or Online format. Students may elect to complete the entire program online. Students in these courses enroll in a program to connect in a virtual and/or in-class environment to collaborate using a variety of technological and educational tools. Professors play an instrumental role in building relationships among teams and individuals in this setting. All course criteria for online programs is completed through online efforts.  Be sure to check with your advisor if you have any questions regarding online studies.
