Instructional Technology

Instructional Technology

P-12 schools, school systems, corporations and institutions of higher learning need experts to train and equip faculty/staff in the appropriate integration of technology in instruction. This need is increasing and ongoing.

The AUM College of Education recognizes that the development of a competent, committed, and reflective educator means the development of a Professional Educator.

AUM’s Master of Education in Instructional Technology and Instructional Technology Education Specialist degrees–both fully online–prepare educators at all levels, whether in education or in industry, to:

  • Increase their understanding of the growing role of technology in enhancing student learning
  • Prepare innovative lessons utilizing appropriate instructional strategies
  • Integrate online components into instruction to fully engage modern learners in the learning process

These are the only instructional design programs in Alabama to achieve national recognition from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) by successfully completing the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accreditation review.

Since the vast array of computer-based technologies has fundamentally enhanced the ability of companies and schools to connect with students, employees, and customers, eLearning options make the design of web-based instruction increasingly important. In Alabama, for instance, secondary students are required to have experience with online course components before graduation. Also, distance learning options are steadily increasing through Alabama ACCESS for distance learning and because of legislation that requires each school system to have a virtual academy.

These AUM College of Education programs help train a new cadre of educators who wish to use technology to make a lasting impact on 21st century learners.

The Master of Education in Instructional Technology is designed for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in any field and wish to increase their understanding of the role of technology and its appropriate use in the support of student learning. This degree option is also appropriate for industry educators (those outside the P-12 environment) who wish to study instructional design and learn how technology can be used in learning and teaching. This degree is non-certified.
