Homeland security is one of the largest job sectors in the federal government, with nearly 200,000 jobs accounting for approximately 10 percent of the federal workforce. Other employers for homeland security degree holders include the FBI, the Secret Service, the Department of Transportation, the various military branches, and state and local law enforcement. Many county- and state-level governments employ emergency management directors to manage response to extreme weather, natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other dangers. Private companies and nonprofits also hire security specialists to protect their employees, customers, computer networks and information. Potential job titles include:
