The Department of Mathematics with financial support from the AUM lectures program is pleased to be hosting the 2005 Zassenhaus Group Theory Conference on March 18-20, 2005. This conference represents a continuation of the series of Ohio State-Denison Mathematics Conferences first organized in 1960's by Hans Zassenhaus, which are held in alternate years in Ohio, with the group-theorists meeting in the intervening years at various universities throughout the country. Recent conferences in this series:
The format will be similar to past conferences with four technical sessions: one Friday afternoon March 18, two on Saturday March 19 and one on Sunday morning March 20. We are planning to have Snacks and drinks and lunch Saturday catered on campus. The conference fee is $25. For those attending the banquet only (spouses and guests) the fee is $20.
A tour of Montgomery emphasizing cultural and historical sites will be organized Friday morning for interested participants and guests. Montgomery is the state capital of Alabama, which is undergoing a revitalization of its historic downtown. The greater Montgomery region, with a population of over 350,000, supports significant cultural attractions including the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the Rosa Parks Library and Museum, the Montgomery Ballet Company, the Montgomery Zoo a natural habitat zoo, a chamber music society, and the Capri Theater an independent film society. Located in central Alabama, Montgomery affords easy access to Atlanta, Birmingham, and Gulf of Mexico beaches.

Special lodging arrangements have been made with the Ramada Inn Eastside at I-85, Exit 6 with rooms at $56 plus 12.5% tax. This price includes a complimentary hot breakfast buffet. We will provide transportation to and from the conference to the hotel. Call them at (334) 277-2200 to make reservations. Mention Zassenhaus Group Theory Conference to get conference rate. Their fax is (334) 277-3338. Reservation need to be made by February 18, 2005.
Program
We would like for our speakers to submit an extended abstract up to two pages to be part of the conference record. These abstracts will be bound and distributed at the conference. Submissions should be sent via email in some version of TeX by January 24, 2005.

We will be using 10th floor of the Library Tower for the technical program. This room will have a chalkboard, one overhead projector, and a Windows computer with PowerPoint XP and an LCD projector. If any additional technology is needed, please inquire ASAP at the e-mail address below.

Ramada Inn Eastside is located about 10 minutes drive from the campus. The campus is about 25 minutes from the airport and the Ramada Inn is about 20 minutes from the airport. Here is a simple local map Area Map and some directions below:
Airport to AUM: Go East on US-80 E. Merge onto I-65 N toward MONTGOMERY/ BIRMINGHAM. Take Interstate 65 North to Interstate 85 North. From I-85 North, take Exit 9 (Taylor Road) and turn left. At the second traffic light, turn left onto East Drive at the campus entrance.
Airport to Ramada Inn Eastside: Go East on US-80 E. Merge onto I-65 N toward MONTGOMERY/BIRMINGHAM. Take Interstate 65 North to Interstate 85 North. From I-85 North, take Exit 6 toward TROY. Make an immediate left turn at CARMICHAEL RD. The hotel will be to your right on the service road.
Ramada Inn Eastside to AUM: Go North on the Eastern Bypass, merge onto Interstate 85 North. From I-85 North, take the next exit, Exit 9 (Taylor Road) and turn left. At the second traffic light, turn left onto East Drive at the campus entrance.
