The Youth Leadership Development Program (YLDP) offers a nine-month leadership development program for high school juniors and seniors from 20 counties in North and Central Alabama. AUM is among 20 college and university partners that collectively commit more than $2 million in scholarships to Youth Leadership Development Program students each year. Read more

Bookstore to close for inventory Sept. 30

The AUM Bookstore will be closed Monday, Sept. 30 for its end of fiscal year inventory. Blue Books and Scantrons will be available that day for students at the AUMazing Bean.

Get in the game: Sign up for Students vs. Faculty/Staff in softball

Exercise the First Amendment in “I am a Journalist Writing Contest”

Enter the AUM Department of Communication and Theatre’s “I am a Journalist Writing Contest” to exercise your right to free speech. The competition is a great opportunity for students to learn and gain a deeper understanding of their rights under the First Amendment.

As part of the contest, students must submit a minimum 350-word personal essay on one of three topics: 1) Opinion or experience involving the First Amendment, 2) One positive change to AUM and why it was successful, or 3) One negative change to AUM and why it should be changed or removed. Submissions may include a maximum of two images. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 11, 2019. Three winning submissions will be published in AUM’s student newspaper AUMnibus and receive a gift card prize.

The “I am a Journalist Writing Content” is sponsored in cooperation with AUMnibus and students in Dr. Eunyoung Kim’s COMM 3800 Public Relations I course to promote the First Amendment. Students developed the contest from a class assignment about Middle Tennessee State University’s “1 for All” campaign, a “national nonpartisan and nonprofit educational effort to build understanding and respect for the five freedoms of the First Amendment.”

The Department of Communication and Theatre will host information sessions and promotional events for the writing competition Sept. 30 – Oct. 3 in the Quad. Please send your contest entries to Morgan Thayer at [email protected] or Eunyoung Kim at [email protected]

First, second and third place winners in the writing competition will be recognized at an award luncheon Oct. 30 in Taylor Center Room 222.

Submit nominations for AUM Athletics Hall of Fame

AUM’s Department of Athletics seeks nominations for its Hall of Fame class for 2019.

The Hall of Fame is open to former student-athletes, coaches and other individuals who have made significant contributions to the success of AUM Athletics. The nomination deadline is Friday, Oct. 4. Nominations may be submitted by completing an online form. Contact Assistant Director of Athletics for External Relations Tim Lutz will questions.

Flu vaccines available through Student Health Services

Flu season will be here soon. Fortunately, you can prepare your defense by visiting Student Health Services.
A limited number of flu vaccines are currently available for Auburn University at Montgomery students, employees and dependents in Student Health Services. Staff members will administer them each week day from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments aren’t necessary, and there is no copay for BlueCross and BlueShield cardholders. For others, the cost is $25.

AUMazing Health & Wellness Fair set for Oct. 15

The AUMazing Health & Wellness Fair, set for Tues., Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Taylor Center, will equip students, faculty and staff with a variety of information and resources focused on encouraging habits of wellness, increasing factors and resources contributing to well-being and inspiring individuals to take responsibility for their health.
