A message to our students

Our students have been through a lot in the last week, adjusting to the first week of remote course instruction and navigating changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please know that we appreciate your flexibility, patience and resolve. AUM Dean of Students, Diversity & Inclusion Josh Roberts has more to say on the subject.

Reminder about commencement

Just a reminder for our Class of 2020 that AUM has delayed its May commencement ceremony in the interest of public safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While spring graduates will still earn their degrees and become alumni in May, the in-person celebration of their achievements has been delayed until Saturday, August 15. Summer 2020 graduates will also have an opportunity to participate in the commencement ceremony.

Students may place online orders for cap and gown or pick them up when the AUM Bookstore is able to re-open for face-to-face shopping. If ordering online, please provide your height, academic major, and degree (bachelor’s or master’s) in the comment field.

Shop the AUM Bookstore online

While the AUM Bookstore may be closed to face-to-face shoppers, it can still take care of your needs through online orders.

Have your order shipped to your residence. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it may take 3-5 business days to process online orders as opposed to the usual 24-48 hours.

AUM Athletics postpones Hall of Fame induction

AUM Athletics has postponed its Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for the Class of 2019, originally scheduled for Saturday, May 16, in the interest of safety.

No date has been finalized for the induction ceremony, which will jointly honor the 2019 inductees and the Class of 2020 later this year. The Class of 2019 includes former athletic director and women’s basketball coach Steve Crotz, women’s tennis standout Jade Curtis, women’s basketball star Monica Diamond, Major League Baseball draft pick and former conference player of the year Cody Shields and NAIA Soccer Player of the Year Taian Souza.

The University Honors Program Food Pantry is located in Taylor Center 316E. Students can utilize the pantry by presenting their AUM identification at the door. For more information, call 334-244-3226.

Donations of items can be made by using the Food Pantry’s Amazon wish list.

People of AUM: Simran Kumari

Recently, we shared a portion of Simran Kumari’s experience as an international student at AUM. A native of New Delhi, India, Kumari will graduate in May. She offers her insight on why AUM appealed to her as a first-generation college student.

Hear her story:

Computer labs remain open

Computer labs remain accessible for students who are still on campus. The computer lab in The Nest is available 24-7 for resident students, while the Taylor Center lab is available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Students are asked to observe social distancing – 6-foot buffer zone between individuals – while using the lab.
