Auburn University at Montgomery will welcome Cyntoia Brown-Long, motivational speaker and author of “Free Cyntoia: My Search for Redemption in the American Prison System,” as keynote speaker for its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Reflections Breakfast. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 8 a.m. in Taylor Center 221-223.

Brown-Long was sentenced to life in prison at age 16 before being granted clemency by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam in 2019. Brown-Long, who said she was a victim of sex trafficking and domestic violence, received national media attention during her quest for clemency. While incarcerated, Brown-Long earned her GED and eventually graduated from Lipscomb University with a 4.0 grade point average.

AUM’s 2020 Chancellor’s Business Breakfast Series will open on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 8 a.m. at Wynlakes Golf and Country Club with a visit from entrepreneur and angel investor Kevin Harrington, one of the first panelists on the hit TV show “Shark Tank.” Harrington launched the successful “As Seen on TV” product line and is widely credited as the inventor of the infomercial.
Tickets are $35 for general admission, but $30 for AUM students and employees. You can register online today!

We need YOU! Your creativity. Your vision. Your imprint. Your design.
In honor of Auburn University at Montgomery’s 50 years of serving students, we are asking our students to leave their mark on our homecoming T-shirt design. That’s right; not only will you choose this year’s shirt, we want you to submit your own artwork or design for it.
This year’s theme is “50 Years of Serving Students,” and we would love to see what AUM means to you. The top three designs will be selected by campus organization leaders, such as SGA and CAB, and from there, students will have the chance to vote on their favorite through My AUM.
Winners will receive a gift, in addition to their design being used as the shirt design for AUM’s golden anniversary, and will be recognized at the time capsule burial on Feb. 27, as well as halftime of the men’s homecoming game on Feb. 29. A t-shirt with the design will also be added to the capsule for future generations to see.

Internship Showcase Week is January 27–31. There will be different employers in the Taylor Center Breezeway in front of the AUMazing Bean to speak with students interested in internship opportunities from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
Additionally, Networking Night will be Tues., Jan. 28 from 6–8 p.m. in Taylor Center 230. Employers will have the opportunity to network with students of all majors in a formal setting and may have the chance to be hired on the spot. Students are encouraged to dress professionally for this event and should bring copies of their resume.
