Dear Warhawk Family,
Recently, the tragic deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd have forced our nation to have the meaningful and necessary conversations it has long avoided concerning racial injustice. The events over the past several weeks are hurting our society and the AUM family in many ways that words cannot adequately express.
Please know that, as you process grief, frustration, and anger in the wake of these recent incidents, Auburn University at Montgomery stands with you. I stand with you. We share your heartbreak, and desire for change. The conversations that must take place now require honesty in order to nurture lasting change and understanding.
As a university community, we recognize the reality that bias and racism exist. We stand firm that there is no place in the Auburn University at Montgomery family for this kind of behavior. As stated in our core values, we value and embrace each individual and respect the diversity of people and their perspectives while promoting a culture of inclusiveness.
Please remember that there are a number of campus resources available to support you including the University’s Counseling and Health Promotion Services, Office of Human Resources and Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity, Employee Assistance Program, the Office of Public Safety and the Office of Student Affairs.
As chancellor, I promise to continue promoting a safe and inclusive campus where every member of the Warhawk family is supported and valued. At AUM, we will strive for continuous improvement because of the efforts of our unbelievable students, faculty, and staff. We will continue to stand in solidarity as injustice for one in our community impacts us all.
