Internship Program

When graduates apply for jobs, they often hear the phrase, “We are looking for someone with EXPERIENCE.”  How does a recent graduate overcome this obstacle? How do you get experience if no one will give you that first break? Why not consider taking advantage of the School of Business Internship Program?

This program enables you to gain experience in your field of study, make invaluable contacts with business people, and participate in the world of business firsthand.

All positions have been carefully selected to ensure you learn applicable skills. In addition, you may receive from one to three hours of credit in your major.

Requirements:

    • Successful completion of at least 60 hours
    • GPA of 2.75 or higher
    • Completed application form (available from Jeff Bates)
    • Letter of interest
    • Resume
    • Agree to work on-site 45 hours per credit hour earned

You will sign an agreement indicating a set of learning objectives, prepare a 10-page written report documenting how the position enabled you to achieve these objectives, and present a 10-minute oral presentation describing your activities.

You cannot earn internship credit for positions you currently have or previously had.

Internship positions are limited and are normally filled in the preceding semester, so apply today.

Submit all material to Jeff Bates, Student Services Coordinator, Room 336B Clement Hall, Auburn Montgomery School of Business, jbates3@aum.edu, or call 244-3187.

Student Testimony

Tobias Mense, Auburn Montgomery Center for Advanced Technologies, comments about the program: The university offers students the ideal opportunity to start their careers by providing a challenging work experience in the public sector as well as in the private sector. The Center for Advanced Technologies is positioned to provide professional IT services to State and local governments, non-profit organizations, and other private businesses. By providing a flexible schedule, students can gain experience and exposure while still attending classes full time. And as a result of this internship, within the past year, all of our five interns received new employment opportunities at organizations such as Jackson Thornton, Information Innovators Inc. or the Alabama Department of Transportation. I can only encourage students to take part in our paid internship opportunities at our Center or any of the other AUM Outreach centers.

Sarah Malik Morrisson, Auburn Montgomery School of Business Graduate student and employee of Summit Housing Partners in the area of property acquisitions says about the internship program...”I really enjoyed the experience I gained working in a new industry. I was able to broaden my horizons by applying my finance skills to the multi-family real estate world. This allowed me not only to learn about real estate, but also strengthen my finance skills.”

Matthew Wilson, recent Auburn Montgomery School of Business internship participant and graduate describes his experience as…"The AUM internship program is about so much more than just getting a little job experience before graduation. It's about professional development. As an intern for the AUM Center for Advanced Technologies, I worked along side highly respected business leaders and took part in important State and local government projects. In addition to developing new business skills, I obtained valuable professional references that directly contributed to my ability to secure a great job following graduation."
