After students finish taking the AUM Core Curriculum required, the accounting program consists of six required courses designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills generally expected of all entry-level accountants. Students have the opportunity to select electives that lead to their choice of careers. Recommended elective courses are provided for career paths in public accounting, government accounting, corporate accounting, accounting with information systems and accounting with finance.
Students planning to sit for the Certified Public Accountant Examination in Alabama must satisfy the requirements of the Alabama Public Accountancy Act. These requirements are described in the section for the Public Accounting Path.
