In-Class

If an engineering career is your passion, the AUM Pre-Engineering program offers a strong foundation for students intending to earn a bachelor’s degree in engineering at the Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. The program takes approximately two years of full-time college work to complete before the student is ready to transfer to the Auburn University campus.

Overall, the demand for engineers in the United States is substantial. Employment for chemical engineers, for instance, is projected to grow 14 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations, and will add about 26,900 jobs. The median annual pay in this occupation is $105,550. Civil engineering jobs are projected to grow at 7 percent, and industrial engineering jobs (devising efficient systems that integrate workers, machines, materials, information, and energy to make a product or provide a service) pay a median annual income of $93,300, with 10 percent job growth over the next decade.

The Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering offers training in these specialized engineering fields:

  • Aerospace
  • Industrial & Systems
  • Biosystems
  • Materials
  • Chemical
  • Mechanical
  • Civil
  • Computer
  • Software
  • Electrical
  • Wireless

Rewarding Occupations and Job Growth

Auburn Engineering is the highest ranked engineering program in the state, and consistently ranks among the top institutions in the country. The college produces more than one third of Alabama’s engineering graduates and prominent alumni include four astronauts and Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, Inc.

There are no guarantees, but AUM’s faculty is dedicated to your success and will help you in each step toward completing this two-year program. Some of the qualities of a good engineer (and engineering student) are curiosity, attention to detail, logical thinking, good math skills, creativity, and solid interpersonal communication skills.

Engineers work on finding solutions to real-world problems, so they’re responsible for designing effective ways to improve the lives of many. As an engineer, you might have the opportunity to work on issues such as access to clean water, climate change, ethical medical testing, pollution, and safe transportation.

Overall, the demand for engineers in the United States is substantial. Projections call for average or faster-than-average job growth compared to other occupations. And the pay for engineering jobs can be significant. Chemical engineers, for instance, have a median annual pay of $105,550 and industrial engineer jobs pay a median annual income of $93,300.

Students seeking to continue their education in Engineering school are given dedicated resources that provide class schedule advising focused on career choice, assistance with graduate school applications, and more.
