AUM graduated 400 students on May 10 at the university’s spring commencement ceremonies. The College of Business and School of Sciences graduates walked at 10 a.m., followed by the graduates of the Schools of Education, Liberal Arts and Nursing at 2 p.m. The keynote speaker at both ceremonies was Dr. Darryl A Hamilton, a Montgomery minister and cardiologist.
A minister since age 19, Hamilton graduated from AUM in 1984 in physical science and went on to complete medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Florida. He returned home to Montgomery in 1994 to establish his own solo practice. He has served as a staff cardiologist for the Veterans Administration, practicing cardiologist with Southeastern Cardiology Consultants, and currently serves as practicing cardiologist with Montgomery Cardiovascular Associates, P.C. He is also currently an Assistant Pastor at Pine Grove Baptist Church of Shorter and Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Montgomery.
"He is an outstanding alumnus with an inspiring AUM success story," said Carolyn C. Golden, Vice Chancellor for Advancement. "We are very happy to have him speak to our new graduates as they start the next chapter in their lives."
Hamilton credits AUM for the excellent training he received as an undergraduate. "I appreciated how well prepared I was, all because my professors took the time to challenge me," he said. "For that I am ever indebted to Auburn Montgomery."
