The Auburn Montgomery Wellness Center has been named a 2013 Facility of Merit by Athletic Business magazine and is one of 10 facilities featured in the November issue of the national publication.
The awards were selected by a panel of sports and recreation facility architects during two days of judging in Madison, Wis., and were presented at the Athletic Business Conference and Expo in San Diego on Nov. 22. Athletic Business is a 35-year-old magazine with more than 40,000 subscribers in the sports industry.
Judges commented that the Wellness Center was an “open, inviting campus gateway building,” with “pleasing interior material and spaces,” an “intriguing plan concept” and a “tremendous value for its construction budget.”
The Wellness Center opened in August 2012. It is dedicated to student wellness and recreation and houses the Department of Physical Education and Exercise Science, AUM Intramurals Program, and Human Performance Lab. The center’s features include a weight room, cardio/aerobics room, pool and aquatic center with lap and vortexpools, a 22-foot rock climbing wall, indoor track, recreational courts, and beach volleyball.
Membership is included in the cost of tuition and fees for all students enrolled at AUM. Faculty, staff, alumni and friends may join for a monthly fee. Learn more at www.aum.edu/wellness-center.
