Dr. Yaw-Chin Ho, Dean of the Confucius Institute at AUM, and Dr. Sheila Austin, Associate Dean and Department Head in the School of Education, are working with Montgomery Public Schools to introduce Mandarin Chinese language and culture to public schools this year. James Wilson Elementary School will be the pilot site for the new program that will roll out Sept. 6 to fourth graders. The class will be taught two days a week by a teacher of Chinese descent. Wilson Principal Meredith Bishop expressed her excitement about having the program in her school and looks forward to working with AUM this school year. At the school’s open house on Aug. 16, parents and students were given a taste of this opportunity to experience a different language and culture.
