JPS Department Changes
Life in the JPS Department will be different this coming Fall Semester. Dr. Gloria McPherson resigned her position as department chair in February in preparation for retirement at the end of August. Dr. McPherson has been at AUM for 10 years. Dr. Rich Martin was appointed interim department head in February, 2008. Dr. Martin had assumed the acting department chair position last Fall Semester during Dr. McPherson’s leave and returned to faculty status until his reappointment in February. The department is grateful to Dr. Martin for assuming the reins as acting chair, and now interim head, to keep JPS programs and activities progressing. Dr. Bill Osterhoff is also retiring in August after 33 years at AUM. Jennifer Fuller began her career as administrative associate in JPS in January of this year shortly after the retirement of Ms. Wynn, who was also with AUM for 33 years. The department conducted a successful search for new Legal Studies faculty and selected three to begin this coming Fall Semester. The new faculty are Drs. Martin Carrigan, Robert Parrillo, and Barr Younker. In addition, the department will be conducting a search for another criminal justice faculty member. So look for some new faces as you see familiar ones in 209 Goodwyn Hall.
JPS Welcomes Dr. Rich Martin
Dr. Richard H. Martin hit the ground running as the newest faculty member in the JPS Department. The associate professor was named acting department chair as Dr. Gloria McPherson took family medical leave Fall Semester, and resumed his role as a criminal justice faculty member Spring Semester for about a month and a half until being appointed interim department head.
Dr. Martin was a professor and director of the Criminal Justice Administration program at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio, before coming to AUM. He has extensive teaching experience at the university level in the criminal justice field. He is also a Certified Assessor for the Commission for Law Enforcement Accreditation (CALEA). Dr. Martin has served as a police officer in Highland, IN; a Sheriff’s Merit Commissioner in McHenry County, IL; a Police Commissioner for the city of Woodstock, IL; an elected constable in Delaware County, IN; and a security/loss prevention officer. He is a certified self-defense instructor and holds two third-degree black belts.
