Math Programs of Study
Pre-Engineering (PEN)
AUM's two-year pre-engineering program is closely coordinated with programs at Auburn and most students continue their work at the Auburn College of Engineering. Other students have completed engineering programs at UAB, Georgia Tech, the University of Maryland, and other institutions. The program includes courses in mathematics, the physical sciences, engineering, and the humanities.

Mathematics (MH)
The traditional mathematics major is for students who plan to attend graduate school in mathematics or related areas, medical school, or who intend to enter the professional work force. The program includes courses in modern algebra, analysis, and two minors, plus electives both within and outside of mathematics.

Mathematics, Computer Science (MHC)
The mathematics major with an emphasis in computer science is for students who plan to enter the professional work force. This program includes courses in physics, basic computer science, programming (C, C++, and Java), and mathematics applications of computing.

Mathematics, Economics (MHE)
The mathematical economics option is designed for students who are either interested in doing analytical and quantitative work in business or government or in graduate work in applied mathematics, especially in mathematical economics and finance.

The Mathematics Education (MHSE)
The Mathematics Education (MHSE) option is a joint program provided by the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Foundations and Secondary Education (SMH). This option is available for students wanting to teach mathematics in the secondary schools. This program leads to a teaching certificate in Alabama for grades 6 to 12. Students in this option will be assigned academic advisors in both departments. Students will be expected to satisfy School of Education requirements concerning admission to Professional Education and Professional Internship along with graduation requirements expected of students in both departments.
