Pre-Law --Political Science
Political science is one of the most frequently selected pre-law majors.
The Department is extremely proud of its record in preparing our students for admission to ABA accredited law schools. Over the past 15 years, 90% of our students who applied to law school were admitted. Today those students are practicing law in excellent firms all over the southeastern United States, as well as in the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Alabama, the Office of the District Attorney of Montgomery County, and in other state agencies. Two are judges - one a Circuit Judge in Montgomery County and a District Judge in Lowndes County.
Public Administration
Students wishing to prepare for a professional public service career should pursue the undergraduate degree in political science. Upper division courses in the area of Public Administration, such as POLS 4300 Problems in Metropolitan Politics, may be selected as a part of the major. Students should understand, however, that a successful career in public sector management normally requires a master's degree.
