English as a Second Language

AUM's English as a Second Language Program helps non-native speakers of English to improve their English language skills. The courses run every eight weeks, five times in a year.

Because students come to the program with different levels of English language proficiency, they are asked to take a placement test before the start of each term. Based on the results, students are placed into the appropriate courses.Theses courses are taught at different levels: Listening & Speaking, Reading & Discussion, Grammar & Writing, Academic Writing,TOEFL Prep, Pronuncing American English, Business English, Communicative English,
Excellence in Writing (K-12), ACT Prep (Reading & English).

English Language Academy Fall Schedule
September 14 - October 21 (Six weeks)
October 26- December 9

NEW! Excellence in Writing (4th Grade): Students learn how to write short paragraphs and focus on the key elements of writing. This course helps students improve their vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structure. This class is limited to a maximum of eight students.
Location: 216 Clement Hall

NEW! Excellence in Writing (7th Grade): Students learn how to write a paragraph and a three-paragraph essay and focus on the key elements of writing. Students also learn to edit and revise an essay. This class is limited to a maximum of eight students.
Location: 204 Clement Hall

NEW! Academic Writing & ACT Prep (9th-11th Grade): This course prepares high school students for the reading and English sections of the ACT exam. Students also learn how to write an essay. This class is limited to a maximum of ten students.
