Physical Science
The Auburn Montgomery's Physical Science program is designed for students interested in working in industrial or governmental laboratories or plan to continue their education in professional or graduate schools.
Auburn Montgomery graduates in Physical Science have been very successful with an employment and graduate school acceptance rate of virtually one hundred percent. Graduates have pursued masters and doctoral degrees in schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rice, Southern Mississippi, Tulane and UAB.
The acceptance rate to health-professional schools is very high - one of the highest in the Southeast. Pre-medical, pre-dental and pre-optometry graduates have successfully completed doctoral programs at UAB, South Alabama, Florida, Johns Hopkins, Meharry, The Military Medical School, Morehouse, Toronto, Vanderbilt, Harvard and Yale.
Degree Requirements
Students majoring in Physical Science study a balanced curriculum designed to meet the requirements for both the major and the university. A flexible program with ample electives allows students to pursue their specific interests in Physical Science through three options as well as the option to select courses outside the major if they are particularly interested in other topics.
- Chemistry Option to Physical Science Degree
This option is intended for students planning to attend graduate school in the chemical sciences. Faculty members in the department will be pleased to discuss the attractive career prospects for students who complete this program.
Physical Sciences/Forensic Sciences Option
The physical sciences degree is an excellent choice for students interested in a career in forensic sciences. Students pursuing the physical sciences forensic sciences option are recommended to take the following courses within the physical science curriculum.
Pre-Medical Sciences/Physical Science Option
AUM does not offer a general pre-medical degree, but students are provided a specific pre-professional curriculum within an academic major. The curriculum in the major is designed for students planning to apply to medical, dental or optometry school. Physical science majors have enjoyed considerable success on application for admission to these schools.
