Auburn Montgomery Launches Regional Campaign in Birmingham
November 15, 2015
On November 13, 2014, over thirty Auburn University at Montgomery alumni and guests gathered at Greystone Country Club for the public launch of the Birmingham Regional Campaign within Imagine. Invest. Inspire. A Campaign for Auburn University at Montgomery. Despite the blustery winter weather, the Auburn Montgomery delegation was warmly received.
At the conclusion of the cocktail hour, Campaign Chairman Carl L. Whatley, Jr. welcomed guests to dinner and began the evening’s program. This included a State of the University address from Chancellor John G. Veres III and remarks from student Kayla Wilkinson.
Kayla Wilkinson was the 2014/2015 recipient of the Mary C. Killian Memorial Scholarship, which was established by the children of Mary C. Killian, most of whom currently reside in the Birmingham area. Kayla grew up in Fayetteville, Alabama and is the first of her family to attend college. She graduated in May 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and plans to pursue a career in the dental field. During her time at AUM, Kayla was a member of the Tri Beta biology honor society, the Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-health honor society, the Phi Kappa Phi academic honor society and leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa. She also worked as a Resident Assistant in the AUM residence halls and served as an Advancement Ambassador. Kayla said, “This scholarship means so much to me. Without the help of scholarships, I would not be able to attend college.” At the conclusion of her remarks, she added, “I look forward to one day being able to give back to students in need at AUM.”
The Birmingham Regional Campaign followed the 2013 launch of the Metro DC Regional Campaign, and is only the second of several planned regional efforts. The next regional kick-off event for the Auburn Montgomery campaign will be Atlanta in the fall of 2015.
