“Accidental” graduate returns to “thank” AUM and inspire new grads
by Marty Sullivan | May 16, 2012
Addressing more than 450 graduates at Auburn Montgomery’s Spring 2012 Commencement ceremonies, Dr. Bradley Glen Jacoby began his remarkable story like this, “… I am an accidental graduate of AUM. I enrolled here in 1976 for one reason and that was to avoid humiliation. Now, I would like to return to thank the university that helped save my life.” A few minutes later, he closed his remarks to a standing ovation.
Now a respected and distinguished physician, Jacoby graduated from Auburn Montgomery in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He went on to attend Vanderbilt Medical School on scholarship and completed his ophthalmology training with a Cornea and External Disease Fellowship at Wake Forest University in 1990. Today, he owns a successful medical practice in Covington, Ga., and says his “American dream began with a solid education at AUM.”
