Carolyn C. Golden
Vice Chancellor for Advancement
Carolyn, a Kentucky native, made Montgomery her home 12 years ago. She has worked as a fundraiser for higher education and non-profits for nearly 20 years. She began her career with Auburn University in 1998 and established the university’s Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations in 1999. In 2004, she assumed the role of Senior Director of Regional Campaigns for the $500 million "It Begins at Auburn" Campaign. Under her leadership, the regional campaigns generated more than $28 million. In 2007, Carolyn became Vice Chancellor for Advancement at Auburn Montgomery, where she leads the university’s alumni and development efforts. Carolyn received her bachelor’s degree from University of Central Texas and a graduate degree in management from Faulkner University. She has also done post-graduate coursework at Auburn University.
When she’s not working, Carolyn enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and knitting. She is also a spinning enthusiast and is a certified instructor.
Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement
Marilyn received her bachelor’s degree in business and M.B.A. from Auburn University at Montgomery and she feels she has come back home. Her previous positions included director of finance and director of public relations and financial development for Children’s Harbor and, most recently, senior director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at Auburn University. She is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. Her primary responsibilities include developing financial resources for the university and keeping alumni and friends engaged with Auburn Montgomery.
Senior Development Officer
Martie joins the Office of Advancement from her alma mater, Huntingdon College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1986. At Huntingdon, she served as director of Alumni Advancement and the Annual Fund. An avid tennis player and fan, Martie has served as the Local League Coordinator for the Montgomery USTA League since 1992. Originally from Montgomery, she married her high school sweetheart, Mark, and after a short time in Huntsville, they have made their home in Montgomery since 1988. She and Mark have two daughters, Carter and Laura, both students at Auburn University. They are active members of First United Methodist Church, and regularly volunteer their time with the youth ministry.
Martie is a member of the Central Alabama Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the 2012 class of the AUM Leadership Academy.
Special Events Coordinator
Heather, a Minnesota native, graduated from the University of North Carolina Pembroke with her bachelor’s degree in public relations in 2008. Prior to joining the Office of Advancement, she worked in Enrollment Services at Auburn University for three years where she coordinated a student recruitment organization. Heather and her husband Steven moved to Auburn in 2008 when Steven was named the first assistant for the AU softball team. Heather and Steven have three dogs and enjoy warm weather, cooking and watching college sporting events.
Senior Financial Associate
Penny comes to AUM with a bachelor’s degree in psychology/journalism from Winthrop University in South Carolina and another in business administration/accounting from AUM, where she graduated with honors and earned membership in Delta Epsilon Kappa National Accounting Honor Society. Penny and her husband, Jimmy, have three children, Emily, Elizabeth and Hunter. They live in Clanton and are active members of First Baptist Church of Clanton. In her spare time, Penny enjoys quilting, sewing and spending time with family and friends.
Emily Hall Ryan
Emily Ryan was born and raised in Georgia, but has resided in Auburn for the past nine years. She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in secondary education/social science. She plans to pursue a Master’s degree in history so that she can teach at the high school and junior college levels. She is married to Roy Ryan, a teacher at Smiths Station High School’s 9th Grade campus. Emily is the daughter of Nelson Hall, a football coach at St. James High School, and Annette Hall, a retired Special Education teacher. She is a people-oriented person whose passions are history and teaching.
