The AUM Department of Mathematics is hosting the Alabama Statewide Math Contest. The statewide math contest consists of two rounds. The first round contest is to be held at eight sites located around the state in Feb. 29, 2020. AUM is also one of the eight sites to host the first round contest. The second round is to be held in April 25, 2020 at AUM.

The statewide contest is sponsored by ALABAMA COUNCIL OF TEACHERS OF MATHEMATICS and the

ALABAMA ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGE TEACHERS OF MATHEMATICS.

The first round consists of written tests administered at eight sites conveniently located throughout the state. Three exams are available: Geometry, Algebra II with Trigonometry and Comprehensive.

The second round is a "ciphering" (Jeopardy style) tournament held at the Auburn University at Montgomery. This tournament is by invitation only based on the results of the first round team comprehensive scores. The ciphering tournament consists of four rounds of 10 questions each, completed by a team of four students. Each student is sent up to answer two individual questions in a predetermined category (Geometry, Algebra II with Trig, Comprehensive I and Comprehensive II) and then the final two questions are worked on by the entire team. For more information, see the Ciphering Rules.

We are welcoming 147 students from 7 schools from local area including Auburn High School, Vestavia Hills High School, Brewbaker Tech Magnet, The Montgomery Academy, LAMP, Saint James, Montgomery Catholic.
