On Friday, Sept. 20, Dr. Estes, along with Dr. Brian Keener of the University of West Alabama, will lead a field trip to the Old Cahawba Prairie Forever Wild Tract, owned by the state of Alabama (https://www.alabamaforeverwild.com/old-cahawba-prairie).
Old Cahawba Prairie is one of the largest remaining examples of the rare Black Belt Prairie habitat, and is situated on over 4,500 acres, near the Cahaba River. Dr. Estes and Dr. Keener will lead us on an easy hike through this grassland while educating us on the unique ecology of this habitat. We should be able to identify numerous plants, birds, and insects on this field trip. We will meet on the AUM campus at 8 a.m. sharp, to caravan to the site, which is outside of Selma, AL.
Meet at 8:00 a.m. at PARKING LOT #1 on the campus of AUM (this is the big parking lot directly in front of you as you drive through the roundabout at the main entrance of AUM).
