The AUM-Southern Poverty Law Center On-campus Club will host the forum "Being Muslim in Alabama" featuring AUM alumna Aya Zaied. This is the third consecutive year AUM-SPLC on Campus has hosted the forum, an interactive event that encourages audience members to engage in discourse following the speaker's presentation.
Zaied is a representative of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which is dedicated to promoting a positive image of Islam and Muslims in America. She will provide an overview of currently salient issues and new developments for the local Muslim community and beyond. For years and with great passion, Zaied has been engaged in interfaith education and initiatives, establishing herself as a well-known and respected public figure in Montgomery and beyond. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from AUM as a member of its Honors Program and is also a graduate of Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones Law School.
The AUM-SPLC on Campus forum is co-sponsored by the AUM Muslim Student Organization (MSA). The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, email faculty advisor Dr. Pia Knigge or club president Dottie Durango.
