Auburn Montgomery/Montgomery, Ala. (Feb. 22, 2018) — Tryon McLaney, a senior majoring in Accounting, was recently named a scholarship recipient by the Harold & Muriel Berkman Charitable Foundation. McLaney is a native of Fleta, Alabama.
“[This] scholarship is a great honor,” said McLaney. “I am humbled the Harold & Muriel Berkman Charitable Foundation selected me for the scholarship and applaud the Foundation's emphasis on veterans who have received the Combat Infantryman Badge and Combat Action Ribbon. I am elated my service with the 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines in Wasit Province during the summer of 2003 afforded me this great opportunity. The scholarship will greatly benefit my financial needs as I move towards graduation.”
McLaney has been accepted into AUM’s Master of Accountancy program, and will begin classes this summer.
The foundation received more than 800 applications and awarded scholarships based on two criteria categories. The first category awarded U.S. Veterans with a special emphasis on candidates holding a Combat Infantryman Badge, those receiving a serious would in combat, or those in branches other than the army recognized for combat action. The second category recognized candidates with an enthusiasm for advancing the discipline of marketing through pursuit of a degree in marketing or in business with an emphasis on marketing-related pursuits.
