It is the purpose of the Fitness program at Auburn Montgomery to provide the opportunity to participate in wellness activities regardless of ability. The program is designed to serve the entire AUM family. This includes students, faculty, staff and alumni. Through involvement in the program, participants have the opportunity to grow and develop physically and socially.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Welcome our newest instructors: Melody Turnipseed and Rayford Lee!

Beginning the first week of May:
We will be adding another Water Aerobics class on Wednesday mornings at 6 a.m. and an additional Step class on Thursday nights at 6 p.m. Also, the Saturday Pilates will be moved to 10:30 a.m. and the Sunday Beginner Spin will be moved to 1:30 p.m.

NOTE: If anyone has suggestions or comments about the group fit classes, you may contact Stephanie Ashworth, Wellness Center Fitness Coordinator, at 244-3630.



The Surgeon General recommends 30 minutes or more of physical activity each day to reap health benefits. The Wellness Center offers a variety of classes for everyone. Check out the schedule, pick a class, and try it out. You have nothing to lose, but so much to gain! 


 Fitness Class descriptions:

Spinning Class: 45-60 min. cycle workout developing cardiovascular/muscular strength and endurance

Spin Plus: 45 min. cycle workout followed by 15 min. of core

Turbokick Class: Kickboxing packed with power punches

Zumba Class: Latin-inspired dance fitness class

Yoga Class: Overall toning and flexibility for the mind and body

20/20/20: Cardio/Weight/Core

Cardio Sculpt Class: Cardiovascular workout plus toning using bands, balls, and weights

Boxmania Class: Power punching and kicking combinations developing overall strength, cardio fitness, and balance.

Circuit Training Class: Overall toning/conditioning using various stations

Egoscue: Stretching muscles surrounding each joint in the body, improving posture/balance

Powerbodyz: Intensity interval training combining cardiovascular type movements with body weight only exercises

Swap Class: 30 min. cardio followed by 30 min. weights

Turbo Pump: A workout combining Turbo Kick, weight training, cardio & muscle toning

Water Aerobics: Non-impact exercises in the water

Ab Blast: 30-45 minutes of concentrated work on your core

Interval Spin: Cycle class combined with intermittent core work

Hi/Lo Aerobics: Combination of aerobics and body weight exercise

Aqua Dance
: Dance party in the water

Spinoxia:
30 min. of spin and 30 min. of boxmania


Wellness Miles:

Wellness Miles is a progressive program from February to December 2013, accumulating monthly miles to help you achieve your personal fitness goals. At the end of December, prizes will be awarded to individuals who reach the 100 mile mark.  



What constitutes Wellness miles?

Any continuous activity of at least 15 minutes inside or out = 1 mile

45-minute aerobic class = 3 miles

60-minute class = 4 miles

Indoor track, 30 minutes = 2 miles (10 laps)

Elliptical machines, Treadmills, Bikes = Actual Miles

Lap swimming, 1,760 yards = 1 mile 

5k, 10k, Half Marathon & Marathon = Actual Distance

Based on honor system, so please don’t cheat yourself!
