Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the Learning Center Consultants?
Writing and math consultants in the AUM Learning Center are highly qualified individuals in their fields. Some are undergraduate students who have clearly demonstrated their expertise in either math or English, some are part-time instructors at AUM, and others are professional tutors with graduate degrees in their fields. All consultants have received special training to work with students in reading, writing, and math.
Where is the Learning Center located?
We are in room 225 of the Library Tower on the AUM campus.
When is the Center open?
The Learning Center is currently open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The office is closed on weekends and some holidays.
I live on campus. Are tutoring services available in the dorms?
Yes! If you are currently living on campus, you may be interested in being tutored in North Commons. The Learning Center currently has consultants on the 2nd floor Monday through Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Call 244-3470 to set an appointment.
Do I need an appointment?
No, but we do recommend making one because our consultants are typically booked a few days in advance. While you can always stop by for a walk-in session during our regular hours, our consultants may have appointments ahead of you. You may call 334-244-3470 to schedule either a one-time appointment or a standing appointment, or just stop by and we'll be glad to make your appointment in person.
What should I bring to my appointment?
You should bring your assignment sheet, any class notes or drafts of your project, and your questions. Please come by at least 5 minutes early to check in on our new database.
How long will my tutoring session last?
One-on-one appointments or walk-in sessions last no longer than 30 minutes, but you may have 2 sessions per week or set standing appointments.
