AUM Recycling Program
Campus Paper Recycling In 2009, the Sustainability Committee and the AUM Green Alliance initiated a paper recycling program facilitated by Mt. Scrap. Currently, we have 19 recycling bins placed in buildings around the campus (click here for locations).
Items you can recycle (no cardboard):
| Computer paper | Colored paper | Xerox paper | Junk mail |
| Typing paper | Notebook paper | Envelopes | Index cards |
| Letterhead | Tab cards | Old files | Self-carbon paper |
| File folders | Adding machine tape | Note pads | Newspaper |
| NO CARDBOARD |
Campus Cardboard Recycling
Cardboard can now be easily recycled. Any cardboard items should be left on the loading dock of each individual building. Please AUM Facilities will collect the cardboard and disposed it in the Mt. Scrap cardboard recycling containers located on the AUM campus. Please flatten all cardboard boxes. Pizza boxes are good only if they are not contaminated with oil and food.
Campus Plastic and Aluminum Recycling
In fall 2011, the Sustainability Committee and the AUM Green Alliance partnered with the AUM Facilities to launch a pilot recycling program for plastic bottles and aluminum cans. Currently, we have 20 Coca-Cola bottle-looking recycling bins around campus (click here for locations). We encourage all students, faculty, staff, and visitors to recycle their plastic bottles and aluminum cans while respecting the recycling rules: no plastic or aluminum containers with liquids still in them and no trash in the recycling bins.
Ink Cartridges Recycling
The AUM chapter of the history honor society Phi Alpha Theta continues to collect ink cartridges of all types (but especially the small ones) to get them recycled at a local store for a payback of 25-75 cents per unit. This money goes toward Phi Alpha Theta’s annual holiday outreach project, “Deck the Halls with Books on History,” through which the society buys history books for public elementary school libraries. Phi Alpha Theta accepts these cartridges (and donations) throughout the year. For more information about Phi Alpha Theta’s cartridge recycling, contact Dr. Lee Farrow at lfarrow@aum.edu.
Montgomery Area Recycling
Currently, the city of Montgomery does not have a curbside recycling program. However, there are a number of drop-off locations around the city (click here for locations) where you can recycle: paper products, cardboard, #1 and #2 plastics, aluminum and steel cans, newspapers and magazines. There are no locations for recycling glass.
