Health Insurance for F1 Visa Holders

All Auburn University at Montgomery foreign national students and their dependents are required to participate in the AUM Group Health Insurance Plan. We remain committed to the health, welfare and safety of our international students.  The AUM Group Health Insurance Plan is provided by United Healthcare Student Resources of Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Students should always go to the Student Health Service Center on campus, first before going to a doctor. The nurses will tell the student if they need to go to a doctor. Provided is a link for On-Campus and Off-Campus Resources for students.  This link provides on campus emergency information, near by clinics and pharmacies. The Emergency Room (ER), such as, Baptist East and Jackson Hospital will cost a student more money.

It is necessary for all F1 students to look over their 2015-2016 Student Injury Insurance Plan before going to a doctor.

Auburn insurance covers teeth cleaning only. If you are in need of dental coverage, you will need to purchase that on your own through United Healthcare. Please see Auburn's dental benefit summary and dental enrollment form.

MyAccout_Create is the direct link to United Healthcare's website 24/7. With this link, students can access their account, look at charges, and reprint an insurance card, if lost.




The Insurance Coordinator
of the Auburn University at Montgomery AUM Group Health Insurance for International Students can provide students with a number of services related to their health care plan such as:

    • Claim assistance
    • Adding dependents
    • Insurance card distribution
    • Policy questions

While the Insurance Coordinator can assist students with their insurance questions, they should be aware that due to the complex nature of health insurance information, we are not always able to provide specific detailed information on an individual case without researching the specifics of that case.

For specific questions you may send an email to global@aum.edu with your information and request. All emails should include your name and student Banner ID number. Please include as many details as possible. In many cases, we can respond to you via email or phone.

If you would like to schedule an appointment to discuss your insurance benefits, please email global@aum.edu with your name, student Banner ID,  and several possible times that you could meet. 

All billing concerns are made directly to United Healthcare by the student, this is due to The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) . For contact information, please call Customer Service at 1-800-767-0700 to speak to a representative of United Healthcare.

Waiver: 
Under certain exceptional circumstances, students and scholars or dependents may waive out of the mandatory requirements if they can show proof of insurance coverage that is EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN the coverage provided by the AUM International Student and Scholar Health Insurance Plan. Students and scholars should be aware that waivers are rarely given. Policies purchased abroad do not typically meet the AUM mandatory requirements. U.S. Department of State minimum requirements are also not equivalent to the AUM insurance plan. 

To obtain a waiver, the student must submit an International Application Form known as a waiver-form. This waiver must be completed and signed BY THE PROPOSED INSURANCE COMPANY which attests their coverage is equal to or greater than AUM's insurance plan.

Once the proposed insurance company fully completes the waiver form, they must submit the waiver form to global@aum.edu by the first official day of the semester.
