Managers of state agencies will offer solutions to five challenging issues impacting Alabamians at the 2014 Solutions Alabama program on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 10 to 11 a.m., in the auditorium of the Alabama Capitol. Hosted by Auburn University at Montgomery’s Outreach Training Solutions, the program highlights students in AUM’s Certified Public Manager® (CPM) program and how they approach critical issues impacting the state.

“Solutions Alabama is our capstone project of the CPM program whereby our students apply management principles, leading best practices and problem-solving strategies to identify solutions that can help move Alabama forward,” said Leslie Meadows, director of the CPM program. “The Solutions Alabama project showcases the vast knowledge and expertise that exists across managers working in agencies across the state. As state employees, these managers are passionate about identifying strategies that have the potential to significantly impact our state and region.”

Wednesday’s presentations will focus on several key areas relevant to:

•    Alabama Film Office: State Agency Filming Guidelines
•    Health in Alabama
•    Motorcycle License Law
•    Reducing Violent Crime
•    Legislative Travel Expense Guidelines and Procedures

The nationally accredited CPM program at AUM’s Outreach Training Solutions has provided comprehensive management training to hundreds of leaders across Alabama for more than 25 years. Dynamic and engaging, the program seeks to develop and enhance the skills of managers in Alabama – inspiring new ways of thinking and innovative approaches to problem solving.

Techniques learned in the CPM program can be utilized in any work environment and bring a renewed perspective to work units and agencies as a whole. The program is a tool for government organizations, particularly during lean times, as managers are forced to rethink their approaches and engineer methods that allow their agencies to save time, effort and money.
