Warhawks unite to shatter Family Campaign record
The Auburn Montgomery Warhawk family united like never before this spring with faculty and staff setting a record Family Campaign participation rate of 88 percent.
The new record set in this year’s “Warhawks United” campaign shatters by three percentage points the previous record of 85 percent, set in 2010 and equaled in 2011. The 2012 campaign raised more than $30,000 in cash and new pledges (not including ongoing pledges made in previous years), and 37 campus units participated at a 100 percent rate (see list below).
“This year’s effort and results were amazing,” said Martie McEnerney, senior development officer in the AUM Office of Advancement and coordinator of the Family Campaign. “We had great leadership in our co-chairs – Kelly Brescia, Bob Evans and Kimberly Johnson – and in all of our team captains. Those people deserve credit for making this campaign such a huge success.”
Auburn Montgomery’s Family Campaign participation rate is particularly impressive when considered in comparison to other schools across the country. An informal survey of faculty-staff fundraising campaigns at other colleges found no school within 10 percentage points of AUM’s participation rate. Here are some examples of participation rates at other universities:
- Auburn University – 71 percent
- Belmont University – 51 percent
- Drexel University – 54 percent
- Loyola University New Orleans – 55 percent
- Pennsylvania State University – 19.5 percent
- Pepperdine University – 72.5 percent
- Texas Christian University – 73 percent
- University of Central Florida – 23 percent
- University of South Alabama – 67 percent
- University of South Florida – 38 percent
“The generosity that the faculty and staff have shown in this year’s Family Campaign has been staggering,” said Kimberly Johnson, an associate professor of Management in the School of Business and one of the Campaign co-chairs for 2012. “The willingness of the employees of this university to give to support it makes being a co-chair a fulfilling and, quite frankly, easy job.
"Most importantly, when our campaign leadership and Advancement staff go to meet with donors from outside the university, they are sure to be impressed with how much the people who work here believe in what we do. When 88 percent of the folks give back, that sends a strong message.”
