Lowe announces retirement as baseball head coach


QVLowe_blastQ.V. Lowe, the only head baseball coach the Auburn University at Montgomery program has ever known, has announced his retirement effective July 31, 2014. Lowe will conclude his tenure with the Warhawks with a 1,063-588-5 record, including 21 seasons with 30 or more wins and 13 years with more than 40 victories. He led AUM to three trips to the NAIA World Series finals and won six conference championships. The Warhawks suffered just two losing seasons, his first two years, during his time at the helm. Congratulations to students and faculty inducted into Phi Kappa Phi

PKP_circle_blastAuburn Montgomery students and faculty were recently inducted into the nation’s oldest and largest interdisciplinary honors society, Phi Kappa Phi. Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi is an international community that recognizes and promotes academic excellence in all fields of higher education. Membership is a great accomplishment and offered by invitation only. Admission is only extended to the top 7.5 percent of college juniors and top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students. Faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction may also be eligible for membership. See the list of inductees

Lutz named Sports Information Director of the Year by the SSAC

LutzSIDoty_blastTim Lutz, Sports Information Director in the Department of Athletics, was recently named the Sports information Director of the Year for 2013-14 in the Southern States Athletic Conference as voted on by his peers. Lutz is in his fourth year as the Warhawks' SID. "Tim is the hardest working sports information director who works countless hours to get his job done," said Athletic Director Steve Crotz. "Tim always has a great disposition, helping make the student-athlete experience a positive one." Congratulations Tim!









Summer of Service kicking off on Wednesday with school supply drive for orphanage

Housing and Residence Life is teaming up with Study Abroad to kick off this year's Summer of Service with a school supply drive to benefit the Singithi Sevana Orphanage in Sri Lanka that six AUM students will visit in June. If you've got some colored pencils, lined notebook paper, composition notebooks, glue sticks, rulers, or other school supplies left over from the school year that just ended, then bring them to the Warhawk Hall grilling station on Wednesday, May 28, from noon to 2 p.m. All those who donate may enjoy a grilled lunch courtesy of Housing and Residence Life!

Employee appreciation night at the Biscuits rescheduled for Aug. 8

The Office of Human Resources has announced the new date for the employee appreciation night at the Biscuits game that was washed out on May 9. The new date is Friday, Aug. 8. Come on out to Riverwalk Stadium and join your fellow AUM employees for an all-you-can-eat buffet, in-game activities, prizes and more. Stay tuned to News and Headlines for ticket reservation information in July.

  • Summer Song of the Week - *Friday last day to submit!
    • Each week from June 2 through Aug. 25 one lucky DJ will have his or her record choice spun on AUMnet for campus employees to listen to when they want to. All submissions should be sent to hr@aum.edu by May 30 with "2014 Summer Song of the Week" in the subject line.
  • Picnics on the Quad
    • Friday, May 30, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the Quad. Do NOT bring work, work topics or work questions. Come when you can, and leave when you must. But don't worry about rain - the picnic will move to Taylor Center 230 if the weather decides it doesn't like picnics.

English and Philosophy offering cool summer classes


AUM’s 2014 summer semester kicks off on May 28 with more than 2,000 students planning to get ahead on their studies while their peers take a break. Even if they’re not headed to the Gulf, students can still enjoy some fun beach books thanks to the faculty in the Department of English and Philosophy. Check out just a few of the cool courses designed to keep students intrigued while earning college credit over these hot summer months

Rodney Allen, Staffing Manager in the Office of Human Resources, and Jaime Andress, Development Manager in the Office of Human Resources, were invited to participate in a panel discussion regarding onboarding best practices in higher education at the 11th annual PeopleAdmin Client Conference held in Austin, Texas, May 14-16. PeopleAdmin is the provider of AUM’s online applicant tracking system. The session, “Getting Off On the Right Foot: Success Begins with Onboarding,” included representation from the University of Dayton and the University of Southern California. Allen and Andress were able to highlight AUM’s comprehensive methodology to welcoming new employees, emphasizing the initial communication of AUM’s unique identity and core values on AUM’s online job application site, through first-year supportive initiatives like the Leader at Every Level Mentorship Program.
