Durr Lecture set for April 4, former Clinton adviser to speak
Vernon Jordan will speak at the next Durr Lecture on Thursday, April 4, at 5 p.m. in Taylor Center 230. Jordan has long been active in the civil rights movement. After growing up in segregated Atlanta in the 1950s, Jordan attended DePauw University and then went on to complete law school at Howard University. He worked on behalf of civil rights as a lawyer in the 1960s. Jordan has served as a political adviser to President Bill Clinton and also assisted with John Kerry's 2004 campaign. In 2001, Jordan was awarded the Springarn Medal from the NAACP for lifetime achievement. He is the author of a memoir, "Vernon Can Read!" with Annette Gordon-Reed. He is currently the senior managing director of Lazard, an investment firm in New York City. Following the lecture, a reception will be held in Taylor Center 221-223. Since 1992, Auburn Montgomery has proudly hosted the annual Durr Lecture Series on Civil Liberties in memory of Clifford and Virginia Durr. Visit www.aum.edu/durr for more information.

Promenade Concerts to feature New Montgomery Trio on Tuesday
The New Montgomery Trio will be the featured performers at the season's fourth Promenade Concert on Tuesday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Goodwyn Hall 109. Former Montgomery Symphony Fellows Peter Rovit and Katerina Juraskova will team up with Huntingdon College pianist Vadim Serebryany for a program of piano trios by Haydn, Takemitsu, and Brahms.The Promenade Concerts are free and open to the public. Broadway veterans visiting Montgomery for one-night performance to benefit School of Liberal Arts
The bright lights of Broadway will shine on Montgomery on April 5 for "A Night Out: On Broadway!" at the Alabama Activities Center at 6:30 p.m. From "Porgy and Bess" to "Ring of Fire," the event will feature the vocal talents of Broadway veterans who will share tunes from their productions in a one-night only review benefiting the Auburn Montgomery School of Liberal Arts. Political Film Series presents Half the Sky on Thursday
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration and the School of Sciences at AUM will present the third film of this semester's Political Film Series, "Half the Sky," Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m. in Goodwyn Hall 109. AUM students and faculty read to local elementary students
AUM history majors Stacey Lawrence and Rachel Campbell and international business major Jourdan Brooks-McLaughlin visited Catoma Elementary School on March 3 to read to students during their "Read Across America" celebration. The school already has a link to AUM - it has been the recipient of donated books through the "Deck the Halls with Books on History" project sponsored by Phi Alpha Theta history honor society. Dr. Lee Farrow, Associate Professor of history, and Library Associate Samantha McNeilly also read to the Catoma students.

Make spring break safer and learn how to 'Party with a Plan' on Tuesday
The Counseling Center and the Office of Accountability and Advocacy invite you to "Party with a Plan," an alcohol and drug awareness and safety event, on Tuesday, March 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Quad. Learn facts about drinking while playing games and enjoying non-alcoholic "mocktails" and "nada coladas." Come out and have a good time while learning how to have a good time safely.

Drayton’s All-Conference recognition leads Warhawk SSAC honors
After leading the team with 12.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, including nine double-doubles, senior forward LaKenya Drayton became the first Auburn Montgomery women's basketball player to receive Southern States Athletic All-Conference honors since 2009-10. The conference announced the awards at a banquet held Wednesday night at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex, site of the conference tournament from Feb. 27-March 2. Psachal Maize and Katie Williams also earned All-Division recognition, while Caitlin Cunningham, Jazmine Jackson and Kamesha Strong made the SSAC All-Academic team. Open gym dates announced for potential 2013-14 Warhawk cheerleaders
AUM cheerleading coaches Joel Hughes and Amanda Brasington are seeking interested individuals for the 2013-14 co-ed Warhawks' Cheerleading squad. The process will begin with three open gym opportunities, where potential cheerleaders will have a chance to mix and mingle with current squad members to learn what is expected during tryouts. Celebrate mid-term with free doughnuts and coffee on Wednesday and Thursday
The Learning Center and the Instructional Support Lab want to say "happy mid-term" by offering students free coffee and doughnuts in the Goodwyn Hall lobby on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until supplies are gone, and Thursday, from 5 p.m. until supplies are gone. Enjoy!

Jade Curtis, a junior communications major on the Warhawks tennis team from Saltash, England, was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 18. Read more at aumathletics.com
Dr. Michael Esco, Associate Professor in Physical Education and Exercise Science, was featured along with a local family in the USA Today article "Family fitness: Journey from fried foods to fish tacos." Esco has been helping the family improve their exercise habits. The family was one of six chosen from more than 400 applicants to participate in the Family Fitness Challenge. They are currently training for a 5K run.
Tim Hewitt, a senior exercise science major on the Warhawks tennis team from Bournemouth, England, was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 18. Read more at aumathletics.com
James Mayers, an AUM student majoring sociology, was awarded third place in the undergraduate student paper competition at the 44th annual meeting of the Alabama-Mississippi Sociological Association for his paper titled "Military Suicide: Soldiers at War with Themselves." The meeting took place on the AUM campus in February.
Katie Spain, a sophomore exercise science major on the Warhawks softball team from Whittier, Calif., was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 18. Read more at aumathletics.com
