AUM's 'future engineers' wage friendly competition to develop best electric bicycle
At the end of the fall semester, the 26 students in the course Introduction to Engineering assembled as five teams on the trail behind Goodwyn Hall to race their latest environmentally friendly creations - electric bicycles. Each team worked together throughout the semester to build an electric bicycle that meets the following goal: The bicycle – or tricycle – must carry a rider weighing at least 100 pounds over a distance of a mile in less than five minutes. The bicycles had to be powered by rechargeable battery sources and a maximum of two D/C motors. The contraptions had a weight limit of 40 pounds, not including the rider. And the winner was... the "Flaming Bunnies," whose fastest time completing the trail was three minutes and 14 seconds.

Dr. Lee A. Farrow, Associate Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, was asked to write an article for the Ephemera Society of America’s quarterly journal. That article appears in the January 2013 issue of The Ephemera Journal. Entitled "Retracing the Grand Duke’s Steps: On Writing Alexis in America," the article discusses Farrow’s search for the physical mementos of Grand Duke Alexis’ trip to the United States – menus, train schedules, ball invitations, and photographs – and how these helped her reconstruct every day of Alexis’ three-month visit.
Dr. Timothy Henderson, Professor and Chair in History and International Studies, has two articles appearing in The Encyclopedia of Global Human Migration, which is about to be published by Wiley-Blackwell. The articles are entitled "Anglo-American Migration to Mexico, 19th Century" and "Mexican Migration to the United States, 1880s to Present." Henderson also recently published "Latin American Migration to the United States" in Oxford Bibliographies Online.
