Winkelman stars in Season's Greetings at Cloverdale Playhouse

A testament to his talent, theatre professor Mike Winkelman stepped into a plum role in the Cloverdale Playhouse's production of Season's Greetings just days before the show opened Thursday. Filling in for a hospitalized cast member, Winkelman - who served as lighting designer for the show - stars as Uncle Harvey, a cantankerous loose cannon who delights the audience while annoying his relatives over holiday break. "Mike Winkelman - an eleventh-hour substitute for hospitalized cast member David Hendrick – is all bluster and bravado as the lunatic Uncle Harvey," said theatre critic Michael P. Howley. As the plot advances, however, "…he becomes more and more a sinister presence, issuing cryptic warnings to all." Written by prolific British playwright Alan Ayckbourn, the farcical Season's Greetings centers on a typical holiday gathering of a family that puts the "fun" in dysfunctional. The arrival of an unexpected guest, a hair-brained puppet show, tipsy flirtations, spousal bickering and a love triangle provide abundant laughs and a ruffled feather or two. Remaining performances will be held Dec. 13-16. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $18, and students can get a ticket for $10.
