Rasmussen establishes endowed scholarship for Justice and Public Safety undergrads

AUM Leadership Academy graduates third class, gearing up to start fourth

The 20 members of the third class of the Auburn Montgomery Leadership Academy graduated on Friday during a luncheon held in their honor at the Capital City Club downtown. The graduates’ class projects were presented, and graduates and academy alumni heard from keynote speaker Dr. Joe King, AUM Provost. Provost announces call for Distinguished Teaching awards nominations

The Office of the Provost is calling for nominations for three different awards recognizing excellence in instruction. The three categories of awards this year are:

Nominations from each Dean are due to the Office of the Provost no later than noon, Feb. 1, 2013. Interviews of nominees will be held in February, and recommendations will be sent to the Provost by March 1, 2013. A luncheon will be held in April to recognize the award recipients.

Advancement announces Family Campaign 2013 theme contest

The AUM Office of Advancement is sponsoring a contest for faculty and staff to suggest the theme for the 2013 Family Campaign. Past Family Campaign themes have included The Brady Bunch, Scrabble, and Warhawks United. Put on your thinking cap and send in a creative suggestion that could be used for brochures, T-shirts, email correspondence, and possibly in other ways as well. Should your entry be selected, you will receive an Office of Advancement prize pack of promotional items. Entries should be sent by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, to advancement@aum.edu. Entries should include not only the name of the theme, but also suggestions for how the theme could be used. For more information, call Martie McEnerney at 244-3433.

Deck the Halls project yields more books for elementary schools

IMAGE: On Nov. 30, history majors and students from Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society joined Dr. Lee Farrow, Associate Professor of history and Associate Dean in the School of Liberal Arts, to place book labels in books that will be donated to local public elementary school libraries.On Nov. 30, history majors and students from Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society joined Dr. Lee Farrow, Associate Professor of history and Associate Dean in the School of Liberal Arts, to place book labels in books that will be donated to local public elementary school libraries. These books, the focus of Phi Alpha Theta’s annual holiday project "Deck the Halls with Books on History," were purchased with funds from an AUM Outreach Grant and monies collected from recycling ink cartridges. Farrow recycles ink cartridges throughout the year, and cartridges may always be left outside her office door, Liberal Arts 359C.

Discover cultural roots of Kwanzaa and Hanukkah on Thursday

The Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs invites you to "Kwanzaa and Hanukkah: Shared Rituals form a Shared Struggle" on Thursday, Dec. 6, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Taylor Center 230. Learn the cultural roots and the similarities of these two traditions. Facilitators The Reverend Manuel Williams, CRM, Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South, and Dr. Shelia Guidry, adviser and instructor in Psychology, will walk the audience through abbreviated versions of the rituals while sharing historical relationships between African-Americans and Jews that pre-date the Civil Rights Movement. A "cultural" lunch will be served with help from Martha’s Place. To RSVP, call 244-3904 by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Put on your jingle bells and head to the Staff Council holiday luncheon and market on Friday

The Staff Council will host the annual employee holiday celebration on Friday, Dec. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Taylor Center 221-223. All faculty and staff are invited to attend. The luncheon will be a potluck lunch, with dishes prepared from employees across campus and a main dish and beverages courtesy of the Office of the Chancellor. Employee service pins will be presented at the luncheon as well as door prizes, and bragging rights for the next year will be awarded to the winners of the table decorating contest. Also on tap on Dec. 7 is the holiday market, operating from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Taylor Center 230. Several vendors will be at the market offering great gifts for colleagues and friends. To be sure you are eligible to win a door prize at the holiday luncheon, you must RSVP to staffcouncil@aum.edu and you must be present at the luncheon when the door prizes are handed out.

Pick the session that is convenient for you - 9 a.m., 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. Discover how you can sharpen your skills and earn recognition for your professional development efforts in Microsoft Office. Ulsan exchange program just one of many study abroad opportunities at AUM

Parrish is spending a year in Ulsan studying intensive Korean and teaching English. Bates visited the University of Ulsan to discuss future opportunities for students to study in Ulsan and possible internships with Hyundai Heavy Industries. If you are interested in study abroad possibilities, please contact the Office of International Affairs.
