Thirtieth Forum provides perspectives on the intersection of politics and the economy
With the economy on the minds of many shortly after the presidential election, Auburn Montgomery’s 30th annual economic summit, The Forum, on Nov. 15 could not have been more relevant. Circle K offering doughnuts, hot chocolate on Nov. 26 to benefit Unicef
Circle K International at AUM will sell doughnuts and hot chocolate for $1 each on Monday, Nov. 26, from noon to 2 p.m. in front of Goodwyn Hall. Proceeds from the sale will benefit UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund).

Softball lands eighth spot in NAIA Preseason Top 25 poll
The NAIA released its 2013 Softball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 poll recently, and the Warhawks earned a top-10 ranking after completing its best season in program history. The Warhawks, who finished last season 42-20 and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time, are ranked eighth in the poll with 404 points. Read more at aumathletics.com

Warhawks ranked 18th in NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25
The Warhawks baseball team will begin the 2013 season ranked 18th in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 poll, the national office announced recently. The Warhawks earned 208 points in the rankings, just one point behind Bellevue. Read more at aumathletics.com

Athletics partners with local Christmas gift drives
The Department of Athletics will once again partner with the "Champion-ship Holiday Gift Drive" and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office's "Christmas for Kids Campaign" to collect toys for members of the community who might not have Christmas otherwise. Find out how you can help

Learning Center offers 'all-nighter,' exam tutoring hours
The Learning Center and the Office of Student Affairs are sponsoring an "all-nighter" study hall on Sunday, Dec. 2, immediately following Professors 'n Pajamas in Taylor Center 221 and 230 until 6 a.m. Refreshments will be provided to complement the excellent services of math, science and writing tutors that will be available.
The Learning Center has also posted its hours of operation for the end of the semester:
- Young Tower 225
- Thursday, Dec. 6: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Monday, Dec. 10, and Tuesday, Dec. 11: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Wednesday, Dec. 12: 9 a.m. - noon
- The last day for tutoring in The Commons is Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Warhawks men's and women's soccer earn regular season conference awards
Twelve members of the men's soccer team and nine members of the women's soccer team have earned several Southern States Athletic Conference awards, including All-Conference honors and All-Academic honors.

Dr. Curtis Ellis, Assistant Professor and Graduate Coordinator in Political Science and Public Administration, appeared on WSFA News at 6 on Nov. 7 to provide analysis of the Nov. 6 presidential election results. The interview was recorded on campus and is available for viewing online at http://www.wsfa.com/story/20036265/republicans-rethink-strategies-before-next-election.
Dr. Lee A. Farrow, Associate Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Associate Professor in History, presented a paper at the 44th annual convention of the Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies in New Orleans on Nov. 15. Farrow’s paper was entitled "Buffalo Tales and Mardi Gras Myths: Remembering the Visit of Grand Duke Alexis." This presentation was drawn from Farrow’s current research on the 1871-72 visit of Russian Grand Duke Alexis to the United States. Farrow has recently completed the manuscript and is in the process of securing a publisher.
Dr. Brian E. Johnson, Assistant Professor of geography in the Department of Sociology, has been appointed to the Birmingham Planning Commission. Johnson was selected for this post by the Birmingham City Council because of his research expertise in urban geography and planning issues. Planning commissioners are responsible for oversight of all physical planning in the City of Birmingham, including land use, residential and commercial redevelopment, transportation infrastructure, subdivisions, and public facilities. Johnson said he is pleased to serve in this vital role to foster Birmingham’s continued revitalization.
Dr. Matthew Jordan, Assistant Professor in English and Philosophy, has had his essay "Divine Commands or Divine Attitudes?" accepted for publication in the journal Faith and Philosophy, and his "Theism, Naturalism, and Meta-Ethics" is forthcoming in the online resource Philosophy Compass.
Marilyn Ray, Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement, has been appointed to the Development Committee of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, located in Baton Rouge, La. This committee consists of four Phi Kappa Phi members from across the nation and the Society President. Its charge is to guide and facilitate the development activities of the Phi Kappa Phi Foundation in accordance with the strategic plan of the Foundation. Ray was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi at AUM and also serves as the Public Relations Officer for the AUM Chapter. She is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
Frank Williams, photographic specialist in University Relations, earned 5th place in the University Photographers' Association of America Monthly Image Competition for the month of October. The honored image is "Campus at Sunset," an image Williams captured of Young Tower framed by the Wellness Center and its reflecting pool late in the day.
