Wednesday and Thursday: Explore the legacy of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings
The decisions made in 1945 to drop atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki continue to shape the world's geopolitics and U.S. foreign policy. The Office of International Affairs will host "Hiroshima/Nagasaki: The Aftermath and Legacy" on Wednesday, Oct. 31, and Thursday, Nov. 1, in Moore Hall 106N. On Oct. 31 there will be a screening at 6 p.m. of the documentary "White Light/Black Rain: The Destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki" followed by a panel discussion. On Nov. 1, a reception will be held at 6 p.m. followed by a live telecast with a survivor of the Hiroshima bombing. The goals of the two-night program are to better inform audiences on campus and in the community and challenge them to engage in deeper introspection on the topic. Both events are free and open to the public. Call 334-244-3224 to reserve seats.
