Come 'feed' on AUM's academic brains at ZombieFest on Oct. 30
Zombies love brains, and where better to find brains than a college campus? The 2012 AUM ZombieFest is a one-evening symposium in which faculty from across the university will discuss their area of academic study as it relates to the theme of zombies. The idea is to foster interactions between faculty and students and learn a little more about academics at AUM. So dress as your favorite zombie and bring your appetite for brains to ZombieFest on Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Goodwyn Hall 109. Find out what the expert zombies will be feeding on

The Forum, AUM’s annual economic summit, set to mark 30th year on Nov. 15
Some of the nation’s leading business and political experts will gather in Montgomery for the capital city’s 30th annual economic summit, The Forum, on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Spa at the Convention Center. An impressive agenda of renowned speakers has been lined up for the event organized by Auburn Montgomery and the Montgomery Area Committee of 100. Find out who is speaking at The Forum

Office of the Registrar welcomes new faces, makes a few changes
In recognition of the need to develop a more structured training environment for faculty and staff in the area of Banner, Argos, Xtender and DegreeWorks, Melinda Kramer has been named the new Banner/Faculty Liaison. "Melinda's reputation amongst the faculty and staff and her expertise with Banner makes her the perfect candidate for this position," said Dr. Joy Clark, Associate Provost of Undergraduate Studies.
Joining the Registrar's staff as the new Associate Registrar is Holly Benson. Benson comes to this position with prior experience as a Senior Registrar, a principal product manager for Oracle-USA, and more than 10 years experience across a spectrum of higher education institutions.
Another new face in the Registrar’s Office is Claire Schroegel. Schroegel has returned to Montgomery after an extended period of time in Germany. She is excited to be working with the faculty, students and staff at AUM. Please take some time to stop by the Registrar’s Office and welcome Holly and Claire.

AUM welcomes HGTV to campus for House Hunters production
A crew from HGTV's House Hunters was on campus Friday filming backstory information on Dr. Clara Young, Associate Professor in the School of Education, whose Montgomery house hunt will air on the program this winter. House Hunters takes viewers behind the scenes as homebuyers decide whether or not a house is meant for them. Continue to read News and Headlines Weekly, where an airdate will be announced once available.

Three Warhawks win USTA/ITA National Championships
Three members of the AUM tennis teams competed at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships with highly successful results. Tiffany William won the NAIA women's singles title and reached the final in the Super Bowl, while Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff and Tim Hewitt captured the NAIA men's doubles title and also reached the finals of the Super Bowl. Athletics seeking basketball game management staff
Interested in working in the sports industry? Gain valuable experience working on the game management staff for the AUM Warhawks basketball programs. Positions are open in the ticket office, bookkeeping, shot clock and game clock operation, and hospitality. Have a frightfully good time serving the community at Zoo Boo on Thursday
Housing and Residence Life's From Our Community to Yours community service initiative is offering a unique service opportunity on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Montgomery Zoo. There are many ways to serve at this function - you can dress and spook riders on the Fright Express, help put makeup on other monsters, assist the kiddies on the non-scary hay ride, or help set up games for the little ones and hand out prizes. Food and transportation will be provided for all participants. Sign up for service at The Commons front desk. On Thursday, meet in front of The Commons for dinner and "boo"tification.

Express yourself at the Halloween edition of Poetica on Oct. 31
The AUM English Club will host its open-mic session Poetica on Wednesday, Oct. 31, in Goodwyn Hall 109 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Poetica provides an opportunity for students to share their creativity in all of its forms. Dress in your favorite Halloween costume and bring your best creative works - poetry, short stories, spoken word, song, dance, etc. Express yourself on the night of fright!

Formerly known as COGS (College Orientation Gurus), AUM orientation leaders are now members of the SWOT (Successful Warhawk Orientation Transition) team. DeStress Fest set to help reduce studying tension on Nov. 6
The Counseling Center's annual DeStress Fest is back to help students unwind on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Designed to help students relax and reduce stress, this year's activities include massages, video gaming, art, planting, a cake walk, trikes, twin spin, candy, popcorn and soda. DeStress Fest will be held on the Quad and in Taylor Center 230 and 221-222.

In support of hearing health awareness, the sisters of Delta Zeta invite the campus community to join them for Hot Dogs for Hearing. Bring your friends for lunch on the Quad from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, and Tuesday, Oct. 30. Hot dogs will be $2 and combos $5.

Dr. Michael Burger, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, has had his book Bishops, Clerks, and Diocesan Governance in Thirteenth-Century England: Reward and Punishment published by Cambridge University Press. Spanning legal, social, cultural and administrative history, it argues that the structure of reward and punishment shaped diocesan administration. It also has implications for understanding how academic tenure functions in modern universities, as well as for understanding of medieval secular administration. A short essay based on the book will appear in the November issue of Historically Speaking.
Dr. Steven D. Gish, Professor in History and International Studies, recently had the South African edition of his book Alfred B. Xuma: African, American, South African published in paperback by South African History Online. The book was originally published in 2000 by Macmillian (UK) and New York University Press (USA). Alfred Xuma was president of the African National Congress in the 1940s and the first western-educated black physician to practice medicine in Johannesburg. He graduated from Tuskegee Institute in Alabama in 1916.
Dr. Michael Gross, Cross Country Head Coach and Assistant Professor in Physical Education and Exercise Science, was featured on WSFA 12 News County Road 12 for his efforts to run a marathon in every state in the U.S.
Vignir Johannesson, a junior goalkeeper majoring in business from Kopavogur, Iceland, was named the Defensive Player of the Week by both the NAIA and Southern States Athletic Conference for the week of Oct. 8. Read more at aumathletics.com
Dr. Ananda Nanjundaswamy, Postdoctoral Research Specialist in Biology, served as an invited session moderator for "Reviewing the Efforts to Develop Commercially Viable Biological Pathways to Cellulosic Ethanol Production" at the 28th annual International Fuel Ethanol Workshop and Expo in Minneapolis in June. Run by BBI International, the expo is the longest-running ethanol conference in the world, typically drawing industry and academic professionals from every U.S. state and more than 30 countries.
Dr. Hua Xu, Assistant Professor in Political Science and Public Administration, presented his research titled "Politics at Tough Time: Cutback Management and Fiscal Reform in State Government" at the recent Association for Budgeting and Financial Management 2012 Annual Conference in New York. His panel on state budget issues and reforms was joined by former Budget Director of New Jersey Richard Keevey, former Executive Director of the National Association of State Budget Officers Scott Pattison, and John Gilmore of the College of William and Mary. Xu's former doctoral student Theo Arapis, in the joint Ph.D. program in Public Policy and Administration of the Auburn University system, who is currently on the faculty of Villanova University, also presented his research at the conference.
