New Common Reading Program offers unique way for campus community to connect

The Office of Advising and Academic Enhancement is proud to unveil the AUM Common Reading Program, an opportunity designed to provide students, faculty, staff and the local community a way to connect and learn from each other. The program's inaugural reading selection will be The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, which may be purchased at the AUM Bookstore. Employees invited to appreciation event on the Quad on Thursday

The offices of Enrollment Management, Housing and Residence Life, and Student Affairs invite all AUM employees and student workers to the Quad on Thursday for food, fellowship and fun from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Much hard work and dedication has gone into all of the university's recent efforts to enhance the educational experience students get at AUM, and these offices want to express their appreciation to AUM's faculty, staff and student workers. The Chancellor has granted permission for all offices on campus to close for this event, so come on out to the Quad and enjoy!

Early Childhood Center to celebrate Fourth of July with parade Tuesday

Child on tricycle during July 4 parade at AUMJoin AUM’s youngest students – the preschoolers of the university’s Early Childhood Center – as they celebrate Independence Day with a parade through campus. Dressed in red, white and blue and singing patriotic songs, the tots will ride bicycles and tricycles and pull wagons decked out with banners and balloons. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on the Quad and will not last long, so don't be late!

AUM to launch SharePoint 2010 on July 12

SharePoint, the software behind AUMnet, is a browser-based collaboration tool that makes it easier for people to work together. It helps people set up websites to share information with others, manage documents from start to finish, and publish reports to help everyone make better decisions. The 2010 release offers a number of improvements over the 2007 product, including user interface improvements, greater social capabilities, deeper business intelligence, and better integration with other systems. Please join Information Technology Services on Thursday, July 12, at 12:15 p.m. in Goodwyn Hall 112 for the unveiling of SharePoint 2010. Seamless Admission hosting lunch and learn for employees on July 17

The Office of Seamless Admission will host a brown bag lunch and learn session about the Seamless Admission Program on Tuesday, July 17, from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Taylor Center 222. The luncheon will allow you to learn more about Seamless Admission and explore the operations of this unique AUM program and where the program is heading next. Seamless Admission staff are looking forward to meeting faculty and staff and answering questions about the Seamless Admission Program. The Roost and AUMazing Bean announce this week's holiday hours

The Roost will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. The Roost will be open and offer limited options and free drip coffee from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on July 5 and 6. The AUMazing Bean will be closed July 4-6 and will resume regular hours on Monday, July 9.

Athletics parking lot closed July 21-22 for maintenance

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 21, the parking lot next to the Physical Education Complex will be closed for maintenance. Faculty, staff and students are asked to avoid this area while construction crews are working there. Any university vehicles that are normally parked in this area should be moved. The work will be completed by 7 a.m. on Monday, July 23.

Denise Davis-Maye and Whitney Langford
Dr. Denise Davis-Maye and
Whitney Langford

Dr. Denise Davis-Maye, Associate Professor in Sociology and Pre-Social Work Program Coordinator, and Whitney Langford, sociology/pre-social work major, were selected to represent the university in the Leading Edge Institute (LEI) - Class 11. LEI is a nine-month, service learning-based leadership development program for Alabama college women. The women and their selected university advisors are placed in an environment to enhance their leadership skills, expose them to community and state issues, and prepare them for servant leadership within the context of a social change model. Langford is planning a career in medical social work and will implement a related service-action project over the next nine months.

 

Haley McIntyre
Haley McIntyre

Haley McIntyre has been named Assistant Coach of the Warhawks women's basketball program. McIntyre, a native of Selma, Ala., served as the team’s graduate assistant last season and spent two years as a student assistant with the program. A standout as a player for the Warhawks, she was a three-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete, an all-conference performer, and ranks 11th on the Warhawks' all-time scoring list. more
