First AUM summer concert of 2012 a big success
Hundreds of guests of all ages came out to help AUM kick off its third annual Summer Concert Series on June 8. Held on the last day of school for Montgomery Public Schools, the event was aimed at K-12 students and their families with a “School’s Out for Summer” theme. The event was sponsored by Admissions and Recruiting and University Outreach. more

'Let the Games Begin' Thursday at Physical Education’s health workshop
The Department of Physical Education and Exercise Science will host a summer health workshop on Thursday titled “Let the Games Begin!” The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex and cover topics such as the new state fitness test requirements and manual, and current information on safety, risk management and liability. more

Warhawks baseball ends season at No. 17 in NAIA coaches' poll
The AUM baseball team finished the 2012 campaign ranked No. 17 in the postseason edition of the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll. During the season, AUM won five games against teams from the top-25, including two against the champion Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs. more

Harrell, Baugh awarded Graduate Study Merit scholarships from AUM Alumni Association
Drew Harrell of Hayneville, Ala., and Stephen Baugh of Hazel Green, Ala., have each been awarded Graduate Study Merit scholarships from the Auburn Montgomery Alumni Association. The awards are for $1,000 each – $500 each for the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters. more

Hunter Cross, senior third baseman and criminal justice major from Grove Hill, Ala., was voted to the Capital One Academic All-America College Division Baseball Third-Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. more
Shea Driggers, a senior designated hitter majoring in physical education from Leeds, Ala., and Brandi Richards, a senior pitcher and outfielder majoring in exercise science from Covington, Ga., earned All-American honors from the NAIA. Richards garnered First-Team honors, while Driggers captured Second-Team accolades. more
Dr. Bob Evans, Professor in English and Philosophy, and Mekoi Scott, an undergraduate English major, selected and introduced the writings of Sarah Fyge Egerton for volume two of The Early Modern Englishwoman: A Facsimile Library of Essential Works – Printed Writings, 1641–1700: Series II, Part Four, published in June.
Dr. Lee A. Farrow, Associate Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Associate Professor in History, spoke to faculty members at the Vestavia Hills Board of Education on three topics – “How to Write a Book Review,” “Research for Beginners,” and “Plagiarism and How to Avoid It” on June 11. These lectures were offered through the School of Liberal Arts program “Scholars without Walls,” which offers a menu of lectures that can be requested by the public free of charge. Previously Farrow has spoken to high schools in Montgomery and Clanton, as well as to staff members of the Montgomery Public Library system. Other faculty members in Liberal Arts have given lectures on various topics in and around the Montgomery area, as well.
Dr. Arlene Morris, Professor in Nursing, and Dr. Debbie Faulk, Professor in Nursing, have co-authored the textbook for fellow nurse educators Transformative Learning in Nursing: A Guide for Nursing Educators, published in March by Springer Publishing Company. This is the only book that presents practical, innovative strategies for nurse educators to apply "transformative learning theory" in various curricula, courses and learning situations. The book presents what Morris and Faulk have found to be an effective pedagogy for educating nurses, applicable at all levels of educational preparation and professional development.
Cody Hall, senior pitcher majoring in physical therapy from Opp, Ala., was selected a Second-Team All-American by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Hall finished second in the NAIA in earned run average and strikeouts, while also finishing in the top-10 nationally in opponent batting average, innings pitched and fewest earned runs allowed. more
Zinelabidine Jouini, a sophomore tennis player majoring in pre-engineering from Tunis, Tunisia, was selected to the Capital One Academic All-America College Division at-large Third-Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. more
Cory McGinnis, a senior pitcher majoring in business from Allison Park, Penn., was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 22nd round, the 681st overall selection, during the third day of the 2012 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. McGinnis became the eighth member of the Warhawks' baseball program to be drafted by a MLB team and the first since former All-American Cody Shields was selected by the Cubs in the 15th round in 2009. more
Ron Snarr, graduate assistant in Physical Education and Exercise Science, received two grants to support his research study “Electromyographic and Metabolic Research with TRX Suspension Training Systems.” One grant was awarded by Power Systems and the other was from TRX Suspension Inc.
Ana Veselinovic, a senior on the women's tennis team majoring in sports management from Herceg-Novi, Montenegro, was selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Women's At-Large Second-Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. more
