Borom and her friends in the Writers' Blocks after-school program read letters to the mayor outlining what they like best about Montgomery, as well as what they would like to see changed. The mayor, in turn, asked each child what he or she would do if they were mayor for a day. The most common answer? Celebrate! Established in 1997 by Nancy Anderson, associate professor of English, Writers Blocks' is a free enrichment program offered to children ages 6-12 residing in Southlawn Commons and Sherwood. Throughout the school year, the young writers gather at the Molina Learning Center twice a week to work on poetry and prose. Each fall, their works are printed into an anthology.
