Counseling Center sponsoring Body Appreciation Week starting Feb. 27
The AUM Counseling Center invites all students, faculty and staff to participate in the Body Appreciation Scavenger Hunt on Feb. 27 to kick off Body Appreciation Week. The hunt will be held in the Goodwyn Hall lobby from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and there will be three grand prize winners. Eating disorder assessments also will be given. more

Theatre AUM to hold auditions Tuesday for April production
Theatre AUM will hold auditions beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, for Six Characters in Search of an Author by Luigi Pirandello. The auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Performances of this production will take place at 7:30 p.m. on April 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21, and at 2 p.m. on April 22. More on Theatre AUM

AAUP chapter to hold first business meeting on Friday
The AUM chapter of the American Association of University Professors will hold its first business meeting of 2012 on Friday, Feb. 24, at 2:30 p.m. in Liberal Arts 220. The meeting is open to all full- and part-time faculty members, even if you missed the informational meeting in January. The AAUP is a 95-year-old national organization that serves the interests of higher education by promoting academic freedom and shared university governance. AUM's 2012 Homecoming royalty received their crowns on Saturday. Jennifer Simpson, a junior studying biology/pre-health, was crowned Homecoming queen. The Homecoming king is Baron Litaker, a junior majoring in organizational leadership. more

Team 1 wins first Chancellor's Cup at Homecoming
Team 1, consisting of Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Phase III and Sigma Alpha Epsilon, was presented the 2012 Chancellor's Cup during a ceremony at the AUM basketball games on Saturday. The cup will be on display in the Chancellor's Office beginning Tuesday. Congratulations!

Medical Laboratory Science program now accepting applications
The Medical Laboratory Science Program is now accepting applications for the class beginning fall 2012. Applications will be accepted through June 16. Qualifications include completion of all pre-professional requirements prior to beginning the fall semester of the junior year‚ enrollment as a full-time student at AUM‚ a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and a minimum grade of “C” in each required science and math course. Dr. Yanyi Djamba, director of the Center for Demographic Research and associate professor in Sociology, presented the paper titled “Sexual Health in the United States: A Review and Conceptual Framework” at the annual meeting of the Alabama Mississippi Sociological Association (A-MSA) held in Starkville, Miss., Feb. 16-17. He was also elected to serve on the A-MSA executive committee as a board member-at-large for the next three years.
Dr. Chelsea Ward, associate professor in Biology, was surprised with an Unsung Hero Award from the Office of International Affairs on Feb. 10. Lured to the provost's office under the false pretense that she needed to meet with Dean Karen Stine, she was taken aback when greeted with a raspberry-filled layer cake and a glass plaque in recognition of her efforts for the university's study abroad program.
