Pulitzer Prize winner Meacham to be inducted as a Weil Fellow on Jan. 29
Former Newsweek editor Jon Meacham, who won a Pulitzer Prize in 2009 for a biography on Andrew Jackson, will be inducted as a Weil Fellow and give a keynote address at Auburn Montgomery on Sunday, Jan. 29, 7:30 p.m., in Goodwyn Hall 109. The event is free and open to the public. more

Department of History presents first issue of AUM Historical Review
The Department of History is pleased to announce the launch of the AUM Historical Review, a journal written, edited and designed by AUM students. The first issue features articles on the space race, the Cold War and school desegregation. Printed copies are available at the History office in Liberal Arts 348. AUM Historical Review, issue no. 1

Auburn University hosting inaugural Research Week in April
Auburn University will host the inaugural Research Week at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center April 2-5. Research Week is a time of year when the university recognizes students, faculty, departments, schools and others for their cutting-edge scholarly and creative research activity through a series of discussion forums, lectures, seminars, grant writing workshops, award ceremonies, events and open houses. The mission of Research Week is to bring together diverse groups of constituencies to share and further scholarly and creative research work and highlight some of our best innovations. Staff Council meeting on Friday
The AUM Staff Council will meet Friday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. in the East Room on the 10th floor of the Library Tower. All Staff Council meetings are open to the campus community, and the council is always looking for volunteers and helping hands, so come to the meeting to find out what you can do. Graduate students - apply for Alumni Association scholarship today
The Auburn Montgomery Alumni Association is accepting applications for its 2012-13 Graduate Study Merit Scholarships through March 1. To be eligible for the scholarships, students must be fully admitted to an AUM graduate program, must have completed at least six hours of graduate study and have a current grade-point average of 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Interested students may email alumni@aum.edu for an application or click the link below. A completed application will include, among other things, two letters of support (preferably from AUM faculty or staff), a 250-word essay on career objectives, and a current resume. Dr. Kalu Kalu, professor in Political Science and Public Administration, has been elected representative from District III to the National Council of the American Society for Public Administration. The district comprises 10 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Dr. Pamela Long, associate professor in International Studies, participated as a guest commentator in a panel discussion on Jan. 15 regarding immigration in Alabama, following the Alabama Shakespeare Festival production of In the Book Of, John Walch’s reimagining of The Book of Ruth, in which an Army lieutenant and her Afghani interpreter husband settle in Mississippi, where they are targeted by a rampaging politician. The story tests family, friendship and the American way.
