The Learning Center held its annual fall consultant training recently for 23 consultants, who received their results from the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment taken a week earlier. Facilitator Sharleen Smith, Senior Director of the Alabama Training Institute, spent the morning explaining how the outcomes of this psychometric questionnaire, designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions, could be used to foster a sense of belonging, learning and positive environment in the workplace. The Roost catered a delicious lunch followed by Learning Center/Instructional Support Lab policies and procedures reminders by Director Susan Barganier and Student Services Coordinators Amy Ingram and Luke Smith.

The Learning Center and ISL also introduced a few new tutors who will be on hand to help make students' academic lives a little easier. Dr. Blakeley Winslow, Writing Consultant, comes to AUM from Baylor University, where he tutored student-athletes. Ye Xiong, Aleeshia Staley and Kev Johnson are new mathematics and science tutors for the Instructional Support Lab. They are AUM students who excel in these subjects. The ISL is also pleased to welcome back Safa Motallebi, who previously worked at AUM in the English as a Second Language program, as a mathematics tutor.

Young Tower 225 is home to the Learning Center, where students are tutored in mathematics and writing in all disciplines. The center's trained writing consultants work with all Writing Intensive courses and provide writing and conversational instruction for English learners. Online writing tutoring is also provided for students taking online or hybrid courses.

In addition, consultants are available for mini-workshops in the classroom or in your organization on topics such as avoiding plagiarism or studying for exams. The Instructional Support Lab Goodwyn Hall 203 tutors math and science in all disciplines from Introduction to Biology to Organic Chemistry.
