Green Alliance seeking participants, donations for campus yard sale

The AUM Green Alliance will host a campus-wide yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 7 a.m. to noon in Taylor Center 221-223 and 230. Student clubs and organizations are invited to participate and raise funds for their projects.

A nod to the AUM mascot, the CURTISS yard sale stands for “Clubs United to Reuse Treasured Items Saturday Sale.” The event was inspired by a 2010 charity sale organized by the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance to benefit those impacted by the tragic Haitian earthquake. Since that time, Alliance Executive Director Tink Lucy-Bouler has been looking for an opportunity to help AUM student clubs and organizations raise funds for their projects and philanthropies through a rummage sale. Upon recently accepting the role of advisor of the AUM Green Alliance, she saw the chance to make her idea come to fruition.

“This is an all-in effort to go green campus-wide using items once loved,” Lucy-Bouler said. “Student organizations can raise needed funds for their projects while increasing awareness of what is around them and being resourceful. Instead of buying what they need in a big box store, they can be clever and reuse and repurpose someone’s unused treasures.”

It is free for student organizations to host a table at the event, but registration is required. To sign up, contact Lucy-Bouler at 244-3350 or tlucybou@aum.edu. Admission to the yard sale is free and open to the public.

Want to donate items? Drop off goods on Aug. 23 and 24, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in Taylor Center 221. To donate to a particular student group, contact members of that organization.

Participants and donors don’t have to worry about finding a home for unsold surplus treasures at the end of the sale. 100X Missions and Faith Rescue Mission will be available to accept and remove donations.
