Aeolian Wind Harp Tubes won the AUM Student Sculpture Competition and will become a permanent part of campus. |
With more than 600 votes cast, the Aeolian Wind Harp Tubes entry has won the AUM Student Sculpture Competition. The piece will now be fabricated and installed as a permanent display on campus.
Designed by alumna Heather Perry Logan, who graduated from AUM with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture in 2008, the piece will be comprised of a twisted band of 250 multi-length mirrored aluminum tubes that will catch and resonate the wind.
"Heather was always a really good, directed student, so it doesn’t surprise me that her piece was selected," said Sue Jensen, Associate Professor in the Department of Fine Arts. "She always worked really hard, had interesting pieces and different perspectives. She was always willing to take the challenge."
The competition was open to submissions by AUM students and alumni. Scale models by four finalists were on display in the Library lobby and open for employee, student and alumni votes April 15-30. Aeolian Wind Harp Tubes captured 361 votes, with Arpeggio coming in second with 123 votes.
A location and installation date have not yet been determined, but Jensen hopes it will be installed and revealed in the fall.
