Four Mondays of Poetry: Celebrating National Poetry Month
Throughout the month of April, AUM will co-sponsor a series of literary events and visiting poets in observation of National Poetry Month.
Neil Carpathios, author of three poetry collections and a creative writing instructor at Shawnee State University, will visit AUM on April 2 at 7 p.m. in Goodwyn Hall 110. Carpathios will read from and discuss his work.
On April 16 at 7 p.m. in Goodwyn Hall 110, Tony L. Crunk, a Birmingham-based poet, author and playwright, will read from and discuss his award-winning work.
On April 9, local high school and college students will showcase their own poetry at 4 p.m. for open-mic reading. The event is hosted by Booker T. Washington Magnet High School at 632 South Union St. in Montgomery
Local poets and authors will be the focus of the April 23 event. Willie James King, Jeanie Thompson, Anne Cope Wallace and AUM professor Barbara Wiedemann will read and discuss their work at 7:30 p.m. in the Flowers Hall Ligon Chapel at Huntingdon College.
The series is sponsored by the AUM Lectures Committee, the AUM School of Liberal Arts and the AUM Department of English and Philosophy in association with Huntingdon College and Booker T. Washington Magnet High School.
