Save the date of Oct. 19 for AUM Writes

The Department of English and Philosophy is celebrating the National Day on Writing with "AUM Writes!" Sports medicine lecture to focus on supplements Thursday

The AUM Sports Medicine Lecture Series will welcome Dr. Bob Keith of Auburn University to campus to present "Nutritional Supplements Related to Training and Performance" on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Taylor Center 221. Keith is well known for his work in researching and teaching sports nutrition. He will discuss supplements and their effect on training and performance for beginner and advanced athletes. more

Green Alliance presents second Brown Bag installment Oct. 17

AUM Green Alliance Brown Bag Lunch SeriesThe AUM Green Alliance will host the second installment of its Brown Bag Lunch Series, "Breaking Through Concrete," on Monday, Oct. 17, from 12:05 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Taylor Center 230. Guest speaker Edwin Marty, executive director of the Hampstead Institute, will discuss urban farming and sustainability initiatives. more

AUM a stop on the Human Rights Campaign Bus Tour on Oct. 19

The Human Rights Campaign Bus Tour will make a stop at AUM on Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the visitors’ parking lot in front of the Admissions Office. The bus houses a media presentation consisting of interactive videos and printed information. The tour includes college campuses across the nation and is a great opportunity for the AUM community to learn about and take part in the continuing struggle for equality and human rights. more

Staff Council sponsoring office decorating contest week of Oct. 24

Calling all AUM departments and offices. In time to show your fall school spirit, the Staff Council is sponsoring an office decorating contest the week of Oct. 24 – 28. Judging will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Judging will be based on theme, use of school colors, slogans, use of mascot and creativity. Contact Jennifer Dyess at jdyess@aum.edu if your office will be participating. Off-campus departments are encouraged to pair with an on-campus departments to get in the spirit of the season.

BCM to act as collecting center for Operation Christmas Child

The Baptist Campus Ministries will house a collecting center for Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes this year. Operation Christmas Child is one of the ministries of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization seeking to meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease and famine. Through this program, shoe boxes packed with toys and necessities are shipped to deprived children all around the world. The BCM collecting center will be open Nov. 14-18. If you and your organization is interested in participating in Operation Christmas Child, call 272-4073 or e-mail Jessica Flournoy at jflourn1@aum.edu. Goffin Boyoko
Goffin Boyoko

Goffin Boyoko, a sophomore midfielder from Paris, France, majoring in sports management, was named the Southern States Athletic Conference's Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 26. Boyoko was a catalyst for the AUM offense during the week, helping the Warhawks to a 2-0 overall and conference record and an 8-1 goal differential. He began the week with a goal against Brewton-Parker, before adding two more against Emmanuel. Boyoko also tallied an assist against the Lions. He finished the week with six shots, all of which were on goal. On the season, Boyoko has a team-leading two game-winning goals.

 

 

Jon Marcoux
Dr. Jon Bernard Marcoux

Dr. Jon Bernard Marcoux, assistant professor in Sociology, published an article entitled “Revisiting the Ashley-series: A Quantitative Analysis of a Contact-period Household Ceramic Assemblage” in the archaeology journal South Carolina Antiquities (vol. 43, p. 3-20). The article explores the pottery-making traditions of 17th-century Native American groups living near present-day Charleston, S.C.

 

 

 

Chris Ross is presented with the AUM Army ROTC Athletic Achievement AwardChris Ross, a senior defender on the Warhawks men's soccer team from Melbourne, Australia, was named the second recipient of the Army ROTC Athletic Achievement Award for the 2011-12 school year for his efforts both on and off the field. more
